This week the country was shocked to hear that the French edition of Closermagazine had published pictures of Kate Middleton topless whilst on holiday with her husband Prince William in France.
The controversy kicked off early Friday (September 16) when the news broke that French Closer were planning to publish the topless photographs. The Duke and Duchess received the shocking news over breakfast in Kuala Lumpur where they are on their Diamond Jubilee tour.
The couple had believed themselves to be in a secluded spot when they decided to strip off for some fun in the sun while taking a short break from their Royal duties last week. But a sneaky pap with a long lens camera soon found a way to invade their alone time.
The tabloid mag published pictures of Kate walking around topless, sunbathing and rubbing suncream into our future King's back as he browsed on his iPad. Hardly shocking behaviour...
The British media, wary about an ongoing media ethics inquiry triggered by revelations of illegal phone hacking and other naughty newspaper behaviour, has generally respected palace guidelines stressing that William and Kate should not be photographed when they are not in public.
Across the Irish Sea, the Dublin-based Irish Daily Star aren't so worried about media restrictions. They chose to run a blurry version of the pages from Closer over two inside pages on Saturday - shame on them!
Editor Mike O’Kane told the BBC the photos weren’t included in the edition distributed in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. Then the newspaper’s website came up as “temporarily unavailable” Saturday.. hmm.
O’Kane defended his newspaper, saying that Ireland did not view the Royal Family the same way as the British:
“She’s not our future queen,” he told the BBC. “The duchess would be no different to any other celeb pics we would get in, for example Rihanna or Lady Gaga.”
Meanwhile, Northern and Shell, the British company that co-owns the Irish Daily Star, and publishes its British sister tabloid The Daily Star, said it was “profoundly dismayed” the Dublin newspaper had run the pictures. We are too - so unnecessary!
In Italy, gossip magazine Chi, which is owned by former premier Silvio Berlusconi, said it planned to publish a 26-page spread with the photos on Monday (September 17), although it wasn’t clear if the content was any different from what Closer ran.
The Chi cover, featuring three pictures of a topless princess, was unveiled Saturday in Italian newspapers and television under the headline “Court Scandal: The Queen is Nude!” Shock horror, she has boobs - like every other woman on this planet!
But the news could worsen for the Royals, as the French Closer editor Laurence Pieau seemed to imply they also have SEX photos of the royal couple which they've decided not to print - for now:
“I won’t hide the fact that there are more intimate pictures that exist that we haven’t published and will not publish. These are images full of joy, not degrading."
According to RadarOnline, legal proceedings for the alleged breach of privacy have already begun - despite the fact that the couple cannot sue the individual photographer. A statement released by the Palace said “legal proceedings for breach of privacy have been commenced today in France" by the royal couple, going on to describe the publication of the pictures as “grotesque and totally unjustifiable.”
St. James' Palace swiftly condemned the photos, alluding to the memory of the late Princess Diana in their statement:
“Their Royal Highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner.
The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to The Duke and Duchess for being so.
“Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them.”
Prince William took the major decision to go ahead with the lawsuit, as he is determined to protect his family. Kate is rumoured to have downplayed the situation, asking him not to make a fuss as she bravely went on with her Royal duties this week.
This morning (September 16) the couple were photographed arriving in the Soloman Islandsas they continue their Diamond Jubilee tour in the face of the scandal.
Meanwhile, here's to hoping that YouPorn.com don't make good on their offer to buy and publish alleged sex footage of the couple 'legally'... then they really could be in trouble.

미들턴은 윌리엄 왕세손과 함께 프랑스 소재 왕실 가문의 호화 저택에서 휴가를 보내던 중, 수영장에서 선탠 자국을 없애기 위해 수영복 상의를 벗었다가 파파라치에게 사진을 찍혔다.
